HI everyone, I am sending you a couple of links that deal with this issue, since I can't recall any of you choosing an advertisment from this particular area. It is an eye opener. Enjoy.

I think this video shows how nowadays people are tricked by the media without knowing. With this concepts is how lots of psicologic diseases in people (for example, anorexia, bulimia) develop (in extreme cases, not with this type of advertisements). Moreover, we can see how the media are always showing people who look pretty, skinny, with a good body. This is what media should change.
ReplyDeleteThis is the art of taking peoples' money out of their pockets.
ReplyDeleteIt is incredible HOW PEOPLE are fooled with such big lies. Businesses do whatever in order to catch potential customers' attention - as the widely known saying "The purpose justifies the means" says. This kind of businesses are profit focused organisations which make people believe their cosmetic products will prevent aging from happening and that it is just our choice.
First of all we need to bear in mind that we cannot escape aging and all we can do is give our skin good nutrition to prevent accelerated aging from happening.
We should be able to make use of self determination instead of letting ourselves be manipulated like a puppet. BE CLEVER - DON'T BE IGNORANT.
These videos show how audiences are induced by beauty-selling companies through fake stereotypes. By fake I mean that these images of women are not real, and that these girls don't look like the ones on the advertisements, as some posts on youtube said. Both of them are warning on the imposibility of beauty as seen on TV.
ReplyDeleteHowever, one must be careful with the messages transmitted. Even though the main idea is to be self-concious of the agressiveness of the beauty business, we must check who is behind it. Dove is another company that sells beauty products, no matter if they are pro-age or anti-age. They serve the same purpose: to sell creams that keep skin and appearance young. The only difference is that the former aims at an older public than that of the general businesses.
All in all, I believe that the main strategy of both ads regarding social values is that we must all follow the ideas presented by media/famous people/stereotypes. Therefore, we try to stay pretty for the world to accept us. We may never reach the appearance we are looking for, but the closer we get there, the better our image will be, and the farthest we will be from ourselves by trying to be someone else.
I think the video is showing how media can change peoples image in order to be attractive, or to look attractive for the consumer. They are creating a stereo type that in the end we are looking for to be like. This is a mistake that people are into, we always try to look better in order to be accepted by society.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting comments!! From Machiavelli over to self appraisal and the need to belong! Wonderful work, thank you.
ReplyDeleteWOW! that videos really scared me.
ReplyDeleteThey refer to media as a enemy of society.
i liked the video a lot, is true that we live in a superficial society, we are always looking to be attractive and so we buy or do new thing in order to achieve this. and we forgot that being a good person is better than to look good.
is interesting how both videos show women nor men, is like women are the ones who are in this of appareance.
apart from this, it is surprising how can a video with the necessary devices, and appropiate music and all that can affect in your opinion and in your whole point of view.
In my opinion the videos are trying to show how the media can change a simple image to get a stereotype. Sometimes we don't realise about this topic that as media in general is always portraying this idea, moreover we don't realise that all our world turns into that. We have turn our society into a superficial one like if the only thing that matters is appearence, having a good body and being skiny. As a result our society is full of fake people, we forgett how we realy are.And finally we have people that tries to reach that stereotype in order to be accepted and not be excluded of society that lost their lives in plastic surgery.
