  2. The cartoon presents the evolutionary theory in victorian society. It shows how the
gorilla has been "defrauded" by Darwin, who says he is his descendant. Therefore the presence of Mr. Henry Bergh, who created the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He is in a way posing in contradiction to how the general society reacted to the evolutionary theory. Mr. Bergh is defending the gorilla, while victorian society condemned the relation but from the human perspective, that is, how can Human Being be realted to simple gorillas?

  4. this cartoon from punch magazine shows a criticism to what society in that times thought about darwins theory. Society in general considered him as crazy, they couldnt reconginize that they came from monkeys. We can understand their reaction because its difficult to accept somethnig that changes all the ideas you belive in. for this reason we can think that the magazine had some problems on publishing this cartoo because it critizices society.

  5. In my opinion this cartoon shows a criticism towards society, as the defrauded gorilla is disappointed of what people or society has become, and he doesn’t like them to say that they are they descendants because he doesn’t want to “become like them”
And Mr. Bergh says that when he is seeing that we are descendants of gorillas we are insulting them. In these cases is criticizing society as we saw in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
